Nurse Caoimhe is an angel. 10/10
Teddy needed emergency treatment on Saturday evening. The care was superb…from the helpful receptionist to the lovely nurses and vets. He spent three nights and was so well looked after. Excellent range of tests. He’s back home. We couldn’t ask for more.
I write this with great sadness that my pet was put to rest Saturday morning. I called Chingford branch on Friday morning and spoke to castle and advised him my cat had deteriorated rapidly, he was not eating or drinking, Diarrhoea, lethargy and I had to see the vet as a matter of urgency. He refused and said it’s not an emergency, we don’t have the facilities for an emergency. Why is there an emergency line then. He advised me because my cat was eating it’s not an emergency So he was calling me a lair and dismissing my cat suffering. I have spent thousands at this vet’s and they knew my cat’s medical history. I feel like I was discriminated against because I put a complaint in a few months ago regarding being mislead by a covering vet at this branch.
My cat was suffering and castle had no empathy and was quite aggressive. I was emotional as I knew I was about to lose my cat I hope the calls are recorded. He also messed up on my insurance claim perviously which I let go. I hope no one experiences the loss of their animal in the way which I was treated by castle.
Wanstead goddard had better people on reception but I couldn’t afford what they were offering so my pet was no longer classed as an emergency. Goddard is not the same as it use to be. It’s all about the money not the animal suffering. My cat was put to sleep at house and Jackson a day later, the vet confirmed it was the kindest thing to do.
The team at Goddards have been absolutely wonderful while my cat has been hospitalised. Every member of staff has been so professional, kind and genuinely caring. They took the time to explain everything clearly and kept me updated, which made a very stressful situation much easier to cope with. You can tell they truly care about the animals they look after. I am incredibly grateful for the compassion and dedication they’ve shown. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.
1-Star Review
My experience with Wanstead Veterinary Hospital was extremely distressing.
I brought my 14-year-old dog Uma to the clinic on a Sunday evening when she became very unwell. Because she was an older dog, I was unable to obtain insurance. Just to have her seen that evening I had to pay £300 for the emergency consultation, otherwise my dog would not have been examined.
At the time I was already going through a very difficult personal situation. I had recently been forced to leave my home after being attacked by my ex-partner and was staying in temporary accommodation. Only a few days after moving there, my dog became sick.
During Uma’s stay many tests were performed and the costs quickly became extremely high. At around 9 a.m. I was told the bill was approximately £2,000 and I was asked to return at 2 p.m. to collect her. In order to pay this amount I had to sell my personal jewellery.
However, when I arrived later that day the bill had suddenly increased to over £3,000 within a few hours, and I was not informed about any additional tests being carried out during that time.
Another worrying issue was that when I opened the medication sent home with my dog, it appeared that some of it had already been used, even though I had been charged for it.
Despite the number of tests performed, no clear diagnosis was confirmed while my dog was under their care. I was told she had improved and could go home, but sadly her condition deteriorated shortly afterwards and she passed away.
Losing my dog has been heartbreaking, and the lack of transparency regarding costs and treatment has made the situation even more painful. I am also now being pursued by a debt collection agency for additional charges despite already paying a very large bill.
Pet owners deserve clear communication, transparency about costs, and compassion during such difficult moments.
Wanstead, staff are welcoming, professional, and knowledgeable.
information is shared at each stage.
Our dog Theo who generally is cautious at the vet, has suprised us, walking happily in and that continued following surgery and an overnight stay. The staff have a genuine love of animals. Many thanks.
I have just had the worst possible experience with a vet called Iona Baker, who refused to give my cat a check-up, left the consulting room for 10 minutes looking for an ear probe that did not even work, so she proceeded to pour a syringeful of saline water inside my cat's ear. She had previously said, when I asked her to check his ears, that there was nothing wrong with them. When I asked her to do a complete check-up, she refused, said it should be done "next week". I told her that it was hard for me to come back because I was ill myself and had to pay for taxis, also, my cat gets very stressed when he visits the vet, in the car, etc. This vet then said that I wasn't allowed to ask her to deal with two different health issues, she said that she's like a GP and only allowed to deal with one health issue at a time, and I have to come back regarding the other issue. She was absolutely incompetent, argumentative, unprepared and money-grabbing. Also very tentative handling my cat, which makes me wonder how much experience she has. I brought my cat to the vet because he was limping and had an itchy ear, she started talking about possible kidney failure, steroids, etc. she was grabbing at straws and talking nonsense. I said I needed a full check-up because it was required by the pet insurer. She absolutely refused, did not check my cat's back paws, underside, tail, inside the ears, teeth. After she poured saline in my cat's ears, he was very distressed. When I got home I looked this up online and pouring saline was not advised at all. It gets worse. I went to pay because she was dying to go home (and indeed I saw her leaving the hospital minutes later) and I was not given a breakdown of charges, when I asked for it they said they would email the invoice because none of their printers were working. This vet had the arrogance to list our consultation as an extended consultation and charged me almost £100 for it. I intend to report this vet to her professional body and if she thinks that she can get away with her shabby unprofessional behaviour, she is going to get a shock because I will not give up protecting my cat. And I will not stand being treated in this way.
I have called Wanstead branch for emergency appointment few months ago as my usual West Ham didn’t have any appointments. I have noticed that my little Gizmo leaves little blood dots on the sink in the bathroom and started limping , I thought he had injury, might felt somewhere. After short wait I have been seen by a vet ,I’ve explained the concerns and she said she can’t see nothing wrong , than she realised there’s something is wrong with Gizmo paw , she called in orthopaedist and they offered scan , which I agree right away , no explanation for blood stains still, after scan vet did find something and said one option could be surgery but need to wait if he grows out of it , again I’ve asked about blood stains no explanation given , another check up appointment to check the options for gizmo and again no answer why he leaves blood stains. I have thought perhaps dry blood left on the fur after neutering, gave Gizmo several showers , kept brushing , started googling perhaps it’s a flees , got flee drops and for my surprise few minutes later flees started falling from his fur , after all the money paid , 3 appointments later vet couldn’t tell me that my little indoor cat infested with flees. I had no words , but highly not recommended vet !!!
